Blogging makes me feel

Filed under: Uncategorized — crystal @ 9:16 AM

like when I am home alone and I catch myself talking to myself…lol! Quite silly but I will continue this new quest of on-line networking and continue to blog the “happenings” with us and our art. This weekend we did a show at Kanatsiohareke in Fonda, NY. We saw a lot of family and friends and made new friends and met some new family members, aw babies are so cute. We also learned a lot about the history of Haudenosaunee and Kanastiohareke in particular. On the last day, Terry went on a medicine walk to learn about traditional plants and their medicinal purposes. To top off the entire weekend, we went swimming…it felt so good after such a humid day.

Our on going projects…

I have been not working on this beaded painting for at least 6 months now and finally yesterday, I decided it was time to get back into it and finish because I have orders for two more and… well lets say, “they have been waiting ever-so patiently for their paintings. ” The next image is of elm bark containers and rattles my husband has been working on. He is the only one I’ve seen that still makes the traditional elm bark rattles.

About Me

We are Onyota’a:ka (Oneida) “People of the Standing Stone,” one of the six nations that form the Haudenosaunee “People of the Longhouse” or Iroquois Confederacy. We continue the traditional arts and crafts that our families have created for generations. We enjoy working with the traditional materials and incorporating them into our own contemporary style. We help to preserve and promote our cultural knowledge through our arts. We also demonstrate our traditional crafts to the public in order to educate people about our history and heritage.
